Make a visual novel about a magic academy detective
A student investigator, a locked archive, a faculty that would rather the whole thing stayed quiet. It is a premise most visual novel fans have wanted to play at some point, and almost nobody finishes building, because the usual path runs through a script, an engine like Ren'Py, and a few hundred sprite and background images you have to draw or commission first. Loomtale takes the premise and does the assembly.

How it works
- Write the premise. One or two sentences is enough. The example below is a working one you can paste in as is.
- Set the shape of the story. Genre, tone, length, art style, how many characters, how deeply the plot branches. The estimate updates as you change the settings, so you see the size of the run before it starts.
- Watch it build. The story bible, the scene graph, the prose, the character sprites and the backgrounds are generated in stages, and the job feed shows which stage is running. You can open the first scenes and start reading while later ones are still being drawn.
- Edit what you want to keep. Any line, scene, sprite or background can be rewritten or regenerated on its own, with an instruction like "make this scene colder" if you have one.
What you get
- A branching story graph with real choices and several endings, not a single path with cosmetic options. Every path terminates.
- Characters with a fixed appearance, so your investigator looks like the same person in the library, the dormitory and the final confrontation.
- Backgrounds for every location and a cover image for the story.
- A public link. Anyone can open it in a browser and play, with no account and no install.
- Full edit access to everything above. Generation gives you a draft, not a sealed box.
Voices and background music are not part of the product yet. When a page says a Loomtale story is illustrated and branching, that is exactly what it is.
Example premise
Copy this into the generator and change the names if you want to make it yours.
Second year student at a school of practical magic finds the wards on the restricted archive broken from the inside and a first year missing. The dean wants the incident closed before the inspection board arrives on Friday. Three people had archive access that night and each of them is lying about something small. Mystery tone, moderate branching, four characters, endings that depend on who the investigator decides to protect.
Settings that fit this premise: mystery genre, medium length, branching depth 2 or 3, four characters. On a moderate setup the run costs a few minutes of waiting.
Can I fix it if the art or the writing is off?
Yes, and this is the part most people ask about first. Every element is regenerated separately: re-roll one background without touching the scene text, rewrite a single line of dialogue, swap a character's expression, or reconnect a choice to a different scene in the graph editor. There is undo and version history, so a regeneration that turned out worse is not a loss.
